30for30.14-15: Catching up, part 2!

Another catching up post! Hopefully I can stay on track for the last half… Though things are just going to get crazier – so don’t count on it!

Worn for a glamorous day of running errands and doing homework. Nothing special! I’m wearing a lot more “casual” outfits due to this challenge than I normally would! I wore my clogs for errands but took them off when I got home. This house is really cold, so I typically wear slippers around the house and switch to flip flops for the backyard. I just didn’t realize how ingrained my habits were!

Scarf – TJ Maxx
Belt – Evans

Worn for a chilly, rainy day spent in San Francisco. I didn’t get a chance to take pictures during the day and decided to take them in the parking structure before heading home. You get a lot of weird looks from commuters. Seeing a woman take pictures of herself, balancing the camera on the side-view mirror isn’t a common occurrence? Who knew. I always feel like I’m going to get in trouble for taking pictures if I stick around too long. Every other time I’ve used a camera on/near BART I get asked to put it away!

Scarf – Target
Necklace – My grandmother’s

It was a lot colder in the city than I expected! I buttoned up the cardigan for warmth and left my coat on all day. I really need to find replacement buttons for the coat. I love the print on this scarf but I wish it was rectangular instead of square. It works great as I have it, particularly when tucked into a coat but looks awkward otherwise. It also made an appearance in my last-minute Halloween costume this year!

30for30.11-12: Catching up!

Today I got a chance to snap a few pictures of the first outfit that I missed from last week, outfit #11. This is one of the items that I had not worn before the challenge. Tried on once but never worn. I picked it up off of eBay toward the end of the summer with dreams of pairing it with a petticoat, red wedges, my black hat and some kick ass red lipstick. Alas, the petticoat problem has not been solved yet.

To be honest, I’m not sure why I chose to include a sleeveless shirt-dress in my 30 items but I guess I really wanted to wear it! I had high hopes but I’m not sure it works in a fall wardrobe. For some reason it looked a lot cuter last week and in the mirror than it does in the picture. Hrmmph. Maybe it is the wrinkles and lint that this thing attracts like crazy? Or without the cardigan? But in ~55 degree weather that isn’t happening! I think I might pair it with the teal top I have and see how that goes…

Dress – Old Navy
Cardigan – Raefella via Ross
Shoes – Sanita
Belt – Evans

One challenge in wearing this dress is the amount of buttons. Buttons make me paranoid. They always seem to open up, get caught or fall off at the most inconvenient moments. This dress has eleven. Scary! As I was setting up the tripod I snagged myself and the first 10 or so shots had a button undone. Part of the problem is solved by wearing a slip – nobody gets to see anything but I intend to do one better and sew up the front. I’ve found that things with buttons often gape between and it looks like something doesn’t fit – which isn’t always the case. Running a thread and tacking down between the buttons helps solve that and will also keep the item closed if the buttons decide to depart. Win win.

This second outfit (#12) was a lazy kind of day. I had to wake up at 5:30am so I could be in the city by 8 to meet an instructor. Which is a little earlier than I’m used to… it also doesn’t help that I didn’t fall asleep until after 3. So I slept in as long as humanly possible, showered, put on some comfortable clothes, grabbed my coat and ran out the door.

I think this was the first time wearing my new Evans coat. Unfortunately the buttons are shoddy. Me and my button woes! The back of the second button broke off before I even wore it! The plastic they are made of is really light, brittle and not very good quality. I had figured I’d be replacing them… Just not this soon! I do love the coat but it is definitely for milder weather. For San Francisco it should be perfect for layering over a cardigan. Hopefully it is rain resistant as the tag claims!

Have you ever had an outfit or article of clothing that didn’t quite work out as you planned? Or an embarrassing button moment?

OOTD: Forgotten

I’m behind in taking pictures for the 30 for 30 challenge – but still participating. Things are conspiring against me! Especially the weather. I don’t mind the rain but my camera sure does! I’ve started taking a few shots in the parking structure of the train station before my drive home… oh boy, the looks I get! Yet nobody offers to help. Pfft!

I discovered something the other day – hidden away on my old computer were a few sets of outfit pictures I had completely forgotten about. What better time to post them? Everybody wins! And we don’t have to suffer through things like yesterday! I’m not myself – something needs to change and quick!

Surprisingly this outfit even contains a few of my challenge pieces! Unfortunately, the dress is not. Before 30for30 I liked these shoes, now I want to hide them away in the closet. Which can’t be done since they are one of the few pairs that don’t kill my feet!

30for30.10: Work, work

There is nothing like working on a project and running out of something that is integral to the completion of said project. In my case, glue. So I changed out of the glue and paint covered clothes to nice ones so I could go to the craft store.

My brain isn’t functioning at all tonight, so I’m keeping this short. Yes, I promise I was working in a well ventilated area! It is because of something completely unrelated.

I still need to alter this dress. I can throw a belt on to hold it up but the top of the smocking is still too big… so I belted the cardigan to hold that in place too. Both lazy AND resourceful!
