30for30.6: Five Take!

So many challenges, so little time! This week our theme for Five Take is patterned knitwear. I took pictures in anticipation for this challenge last week but included an acceptable piece in my 30for30, so I figured I’d combine the two. Guess I’ll save those for later. Feel free to check out last week, if you missed it!

Don’t forget to visit the others: Beth, Elizabeth, Monkey and Ms. Loaf, to see their outfits!

I love knitwear. Which maybe led me to learning to spin yarn and ultimately knit – hrm, something to think about? Lately the trends have ran toward bulky knits which tend to look awkward but more importantly – are impossibly warm to wear. Maybe it is the California weather? Maybe I run hot? Either way, wooly knits don’t really have a place in my wardrobe unless they are scarves. In high school I fell in love with a heathered grey, cotton, cable knit sweater from Lane Bryant. The bonus? It totally fit my “grandma” nickname and I loved it. I pretty much lived in it for a couple of years. I actually found it this summer when going through old boxes and had a moment. Maybe I should find it and wear it… once 30for30 is over, that is.

I’ll be sending my regular camera in for repairs pretty soon, so I figured I ought to get reacquainted with the old one… plus it is a lot easier to carry around. Didn’t take me long to remember how much I loathe the kit lens! I did forget about the whole tripod issue when taking OOTD’s out and about so here are a couple of awkward, hip height photos!

Dress – Old Navy
Cardigan – Rafaella via Ross
Tights – We Love Colors, Scarlet Red
Necklace – Claire’s
Boots – Clarks
Belt – Torrid

This cardigan is definitely one of my favorites. Though I have a tendency to throw it on over a solid dress and call it a day. *cough* I thought this taupey, tan dress would be a good addition to my 30for30 items since I lack neutrals that aren’t black but now I’m not so sure. I have a few ideas but not sure how successful they will be. A dress-up session might be in order. Maybe if I have time next week.

Fallen Flowers

It is just five short weeks until the end of the semester. I’m kind of surprised how quickly it has gone. Not much has changed compared to last year. If anything, time should tick at an agonizing pace because I’m technically doing LESS… Where has the time gone? What has been accomplished?

More importantly – WHY IS CHRISTMAS SO CLOSE!? AHHHHHH!

OOTD: LA face with an Oakland booty

Yeah, I went there. A few weeks ago, we went on a photo-taking adventure in at the Middle Harbor Shoreline Park in Oakland after running some errands in Berkeley (art supplies). Once I started considering post titles, well… I couldn’t go with anything else. At one point, my friend and I could recite the entire song. Ah, middle school! Either way, here are a couple of shots that I took, plus the OOTD. Sorry for the picture overload!

Lately I’ve definitely been neglecting my camera. I have to lug so much stuff around for classes that I can’t carry it with me and thus, don’t take as many pictures of random shit. Some of my favorite shots that I’ve taken have been by accident and being in the right place at the right time – often in the city. Such is life! Sometimes I really wish I had a point and shoot that could live in my purse. My phone just doesn’t deliver in the photography department.

Here I am attempting to photograph myself by a random art installation on the shoreline. It was so far away from everything! Originally I thought it was a whale and was super excited to take my picture next to it. Nerd much? I have to admit that I was a little disappointed to discover it was a dolphin.

Dress – Lane Bryant

Shoes – Ross
Necklace – New Look
Bangles – Torrid

And the outfit of the day! Nothing exciting or new and shiny. Just remixing some pieces from my wardrobe. This Lane Bryant jersey dress has served me well since I picked it up on summer clearance a few years ago. Super comfy and easy to dress up or down. What more can you ask for? I also have it in red! I’ve been asked a few times about where I get my patterned cardigans. The answer is usually Torrid or Old Navy, occasionally at Ross. Torrid has been a really great resource – I wait for them to go on clearance and pounce! Originally, I wasn’t too sure about this one but it has grown on me because it works well with a lot of my clothes. I like bright colors, what can I say. Then again, it is floral print. How can I resist?

Meteor shower

A few weeks ago was the Perseid meteor shower. My grand plan started with getting a campsite or parking up on Mt. Diablo for the nights of the meteor shower and sitting out all night to watch the stars – but I procrastinated. As time went on, I forgot completely… until the night of the meteor shower, when Annissa reminded me. Running out of the house last minute wasn’t exactly ideal. I did make sure to wear pants, a sweater, actual shoes instead of sandals and brought a blanket. I’m glad because it got pretty chilly!

The “show” was supposed to be pretty great since it occurred before the new moon. Sources from all over the Bay said that if the fog behaved that we should be able to see a lot. Well, turned out to be not so much. I got a few pictures, not really of any meteors. Maybe a satellite. We didn’t see too many streak by but it was definitely neat!

I should have gone to take pictures of the fog rolling in over the Carquinez bridge in Vallejo. Now that looked amazing! Maybe another night. There are a couple more pictures on my Flickr, if you’re interested!
