Today was my last day of “vacation” – full of running errands, returning Christmas stuff, lunch out and a visit to the flea market. I love, love, love my job but it was amazing to be (more or less) unplugged for a few days. We got back home from Tahoe late last night and it was nice to sleep in for a change!
I forgot the camera at home, but here are a few iPhoneography shots of my casual outfit and the flea market, thanks to Chris.

The flea market is every Saturday and Sunday, year round, but I’ve only been a handful of times. For the most part, I try to stay away from places where I can acquire inexpensive vintage crap because I love it so much. Furniture, kitchen stuff, jewelry… you name it!
I picked up a few small things, like the little apple pin shown below; a plum, graduated wooden bead necklace; a Pyrex butter dish; and a few kitchen items – most important being vintage measuring spoons. They just don’t make them like they used to. In my kitchen, I use a few that were my grandmother’s – metal, engraved and pure awesome. I hate plastic and printing that rubs off! So I picked up two sets that mimic my grandmother’s – one long handled set and one short, and an extra set for my mom.
Spent less than $15 bucks, so it was definitely a successful trip! And not much to be scared of in terms of furniture (storage issues), so I might start going regularly. There is lots of junk to sift through, but you can find some gems!
Last week, I picked up a couple pairs of casual shoes from 6pm.com for $16.99 a pop and they arrived right before we got home last night. Guess I’ve been talking about 6pm a lot lately, eh?
These sneakers are super cute, comfortable and vegan. I’ve been desperate to find a pair of cute, casual shoes that I can wear for errands and I think these fit the bill. Without some kind of sneaker in my regular shoe rotation, my black flats (that go with everything!) get worn out too quick. The pair of Clarks that I bought in September are already on their last legs from near daily wear, sigh.
Anybody have suggestions for reasonably priced, black leather flats with decent support? It is like finding a needle in a haystack! For workhorse shoes that get tons of wear, I don’t want to spend a lot, but I also know that $20 shoes from a big box store won’t last me a week.
This outfit, with different cardigans, has been in my need-to-run-out-of-the-house-quick or need-to-be-casual rotation for over a year now. Here is the first time I wore it! Today I gravitated toward more fancy digs but that doesn’t bode well for flea market bargaining… casual wins!
For their first outing, these shoes were super comfortable for lots of walking… but I did have a few sore spots at the end of the day. And wearing close fitting shoes reminds me of how badly I need a pedicure. Ouch!
All in all – I had a great last day off… and I think I’ll finish up by going to sleep early.
What is your favorite pair of comfortable shoes? Shoes you own now, or a pair that have “passed on”.
