OOTD: Blue shoes

Quick post with what I wore today! All I wanted to do was wear my new blue boots today.

Unfortunately dirty laundry > me, so my original “vision” (and 2nd/3rd ideas) will have to make a sartorial debut another time. Not the outfit I envisioned but it didn’t turn out too bad.

After work I had to run around like a crazy person to get some errands done. I have company coming next Thursday and the house is far, far from ready. Did I mention that I work or have big time commitments from now until then? And it is finals week? This is gonna be fun.

OOTD: Blue shoes

Shirt, skirt – Avenue, 26/28
Cardigan – Dorothy Perkins, UK 22
Tights – Avenue, EE
Boots – Daria Leather Lace-up Bootie, Roamans, 11W, $30 with coupon
Bracelet – Evans, similar here in orange
Lipstick – MAC in Girl About Town

Are you guys proud of me? I didn’t wear a belt. A rare occasion, indeed!

I was a little skeptical about these boots, because my experience with footwear from “the catalogs” hasn’t been that great. They do come in wide calf and larger shoe sizes (good), in cute styles (fantastic) but I’ve found the quality (sub par) and staying power to be lacking for the price (sucks). I also found out the hard way that they have a tendency to lie on the product descriptions, like claiming a man-made upper (it was more like super cheap felt) is suede!

I think not.

But these boots are definitely a winner. They do run a big, I think I could get away with a size smaller but it is nothing a pair of socks can’t fix.

Happy Friday! I hope you enjoy the weekend. I’ll be attending a baby shower for my cousin tomorrow and cleaning or working otherwise, so have some fun for me!

How do you feel about colored footwear? What are your plans for the weekend?

Five Take: Outerwear

It is that time of the week again – Five Take! Which is also day 20 of the 30 for 30 challenge. This week we are incorporating necessary outerwear – scarves, coats, etc. Thankfully the weather is finally cooperating!

I’m a day late but make sure to visit: Beth, Elizabeth, Monkey and Ms. Loaf, to see their outfits! Unlike me, they have to deal with snow!

Five Take: Necessary Outerwear

Coat, tights, flats – Evans
Scarf – Handknit
Cardigan – Dorothy Perkins
Dress – Avenue
Bangles – Torrid

The red coat is certainly getting worn a lot! On the mild days I prefer it over my wool coats. Less fabric, easier to maneuver and still keeps me warm! Underneath I wore my grey sheath dress with my purple cardigan, though neglected to get a picture. I took these late in the day and was loosing light with every shot!

I started this chartreuse hooded scarf last year to wear at work. The building I worked in at the college was ridiculously cold and the space-heater didn’t help much. It would fry half of my body while the other was still ice cold. Most of the time I wore tights and leggings under my jeans, then layered 2-3 tops and wore a sweatshirt. Sometimes a coat too! I got into the habit of also wrapping a scarf around my face but even with the hood of the sweatshirt up, my head and neck were still cold!

I finished the scarf in February but it took me nine months to sew in the ends and put buttons on. Now I can wear it!

Adding pins to a coat or wearing a cute scarf are two of the easiest ways to dress up your outerwear. A few years ago, I started collecting vintage pins and during the winter I like to cluster them on the collar or lapel of my coat for a little something extra. The only problem I’ve ran into is that I tend to snag them on my sleeve or scarves. I haven’t had a chance to put one on my red coat yet but I will remedy that soon!

With the mild, sometimes rainy winters of the San Francisco Bay area – I have it pretty easy when it comes to outerwear. As long as I am reasonably waterproof, have an umbrella and shoes that don’t slip… I’m happy! The lowest temperatures we’ve had so far this year were in the mid 20s (Fahrenheit).

What do you do to stay both cute and warm? Or does warmth take priority over fashion?

30for30.19: Complementary

While going through pictures I realized that Day 16, the 23rd is missing! Numbering of posts has been changed accordingly. The memory cards are blank so I must have deleted them on accident. Looks like I will be playing dress up later this week…

I really love this color combination but that isn’t too surprising since I have a tendency to dress with the color wheel in mind. Yes, I’m totally a nerd. At the very least, I figure it is good preparation for the intensive Color Theory class I plan to take over the summer, known affectionately as 7 weeks of hell.

Dress as a top – Avenue
Jeggings – Old Navy
Cardigan – Dorothy Perkins
Flower – Mall store
Flats – Evans
Belt – Torrid
Tights – We Love Colors, Gold

Speaking of nerding out, the light on the afternoon I took these pictures was phenomenal. I was distracted, which led to lots of awkward expressions. Mostly wishing for someone to photograph other than myself! Ha.

This Avenue dress doesn’t really work as a top. The fabric is too light, so it has a tendency to puff out instead of laying flat, resulting in ruffle butt! This also meant the “hem” wasn’t straight all the way around, despite my efforts to fix it. Tucking dresses in or belting them up is more effort that it is worth. For me, it isn’t very practical since things tend to migrate and I’d rather not spend my day fussing with the positioning of my clothing!

These sequin flats were one of my 30 for 30 substitutions. Wearing the clogs so often was driving me crazy, so I thought these would work nicely for Thanksgiving – but I keep wearing them. Oooh shiny! They aren’t exactly rain proof so I need to stop before they get ruined.

30for30.14-15: Catching up, part 2!

Another catching up post! Hopefully I can stay on track for the last half… Though things are just going to get crazier – so don’t count on it!

Worn for a glamorous day of running errands and doing homework. Nothing special! I’m wearing a lot more “casual” outfits due to this challenge than I normally would! I wore my clogs for errands but took them off when I got home. This house is really cold, so I typically wear slippers around the house and switch to flip flops for the backyard. I just didn’t realize how ingrained my habits were!

30for30.14: Catching up #3!

Jeggings, flip flops – Old Navy
Cami, sweater – Avenue
Scarf – TJ Maxx
Belt – Evans

Worn for a chilly, rainy day spent in San Francisco. I didn’t get a chance to take pictures during the day and decided to take them in the parking structure before heading home. You get a lot of weird looks from commuters. Seeing a woman take pictures of herself, balancing the camera on the side-view mirror isn’t a common occurrence? Who knew. I always feel like I’m going to get in trouble for taking pictures if I stick around too long. Every other time I’ve used a camera on/near BART I get asked to put it away!

Coat – Evans
Skirt – Vintage via Cupcakes and Muffintops 2.0
Cardigan – Dorothy Perkins
Shoes – Sanita
Shirt – Puff via Ross
Tights – Avenue
Scarf – Target
Necklace – My grandmother’s

It was a lot colder in the city than I expected! I buttoned up the cardigan for warmth and left my coat on all day. I really need to find replacement buttons for the coat. I love the print on this scarf but I wish it was rectangular instead of square. It works great as I have it, particularly when tucked into a coat but looks awkward otherwise. It also made an appearance in my last-minute Halloween costume this year!
