OOTD: Black, red and tan

I know the title sounds like a bad joke. Like… What is black, red and tan all over?

Me. Awful, I know. You can’t blame a girl for trying! Well, I guess you can but shhh… look at the pictures.

This lovely sweater came to me from Rebecca. I saw it on the Evans website last fall but wasn’t willing to shell out the cash for something I wasn’t sure about. So when she had this up for sale last month, I took the chance. Thanks Rebecca!

I love the look and feel of this sweater – the stripes, soft material, detail and colors. The arms are probably my favorite part. The sweater is meant to fit loosely and the fitted sleeves keep it from being too overwhelming. I have a tendency to push up the sleeves on cardigans and jackets, but these work better down. I know I wasn’t entirely successful since I caught myself pushing them up in a picture! Habits are hard to break. It was a little shorter than I expected and the draping in front causes a little too much airflow for a cold day, so I wore the belt. But really… I’ll use any excuse to wear a red belt!

Since pulling this skirt out for Five Take, I’ve been wearing it a lot. Funny how you can get reminded of a piece of clothing, then become obsessed with it. I’m sure there is more where it came from… I think my closet multiplies without my help.

Speaking of Five Take, I completely missed last week because I never got the photos because I was too busy having fun. And I might have also forgot my camera in the car… Once I do laundry, I’ll remedy that – promise!

Have you found any forgotten gems in your closet?

30for30.6: Five Take!

So many challenges, so little time! This week our theme for Five Take is patterned knitwear. I took pictures in anticipation for this challenge last week but included an acceptable piece in my 30for30, so I figured I’d combine the two. Guess I’ll save those for later. Feel free to check out last week, if you missed it!

Don’t forget to visit the others: Beth, Elizabeth, Monkey and Ms. Loaf, to see their outfits!

I love knitwear. Which maybe led me to learning to spin yarn and ultimately knit – hrm, something to think about? Lately the trends have ran toward bulky knits which tend to look awkward but more importantly – are impossibly warm to wear. Maybe it is the California weather? Maybe I run hot? Either way, wooly knits don’t really have a place in my wardrobe unless they are scarves. In high school I fell in love with a heathered grey, cotton, cable knit sweater from Lane Bryant. The bonus? It totally fit my “grandma” nickname and I loved it. I pretty much lived in it for a couple of years. I actually found it this summer when going through old boxes and had a moment. Maybe I should find it and wear it… once 30for30 is over, that is.

I’ll be sending my regular camera in for repairs pretty soon, so I figured I ought to get reacquainted with the old one… plus it is a lot easier to carry around. Didn’t take me long to remember how much I loathe the kit lens! I did forget about the whole tripod issue when taking OOTD’s out and about so here are a couple of awkward, hip height photos!

30for30.6: Five Take!

Dress – Old Navy
Cardigan – Rafaella via Ross
Tights – We Love Colors, Scarlet Red
Necklace – Claire’s
Boots – Clarks
Belt – Torrid

This cardigan is definitely one of my favorites. Though I have a tendency to throw it on over a solid dress and call it a day. *cough* I thought this taupey, tan dress would be a good addition to my 30for30 items since I lack neutrals that aren’t black but now I’m not so sure. I have a few ideas but not sure how successful they will be. A dress-up session might be in order. Maybe if I have time next week.

30for30.6: Five Take! Flowers

Fallen

Fallen Flowers

It is just five short weeks until the end of the semester. I’m kind of surprised how quickly it has gone. Not much has changed compared to last year. If anything, time should tick at an agonizing pace because I’m technically doing LESS… Where has the time gone? What has been accomplished?

More importantly – WHY IS CHRISTMAS SO CLOSE!? AHHHHHH!
