In a New York minute

As an Andorid user, Instagram is my new obsession. If you follow me on Twitter, you probably know that… and have probably seen some (or all) of these already – sorry!

My trip to Full Figured Fashion Week has been absolutely amazing. It was so great to meet other bloggers, industry leaders, designers and so many wonderful people from all over the world. But especially Rebecca from The Plus Side Of Me; Olivia from Wait Until The Sunset, her fiance Ben and Jen, the fantastic designer behind Cult of California. Meeting and hanging out with them totally made my week!

Tonight I head back home to Texas, but I thought I’d do a quick recap of the trip with Instagram photos.

Some of these photos are from Rebecca and Olivia. Make sure to check them out! Lots of exciting New York/FFFW posts are in the works.

I have plenty more to talk about and outfit shots to post once I’m back in Texas. That is, after I catch up on sleep!

It’s been fun NYC, but I’m ready to go home!

Road Trip: Day 2

On Wednesday we spent the day in super sunny San Diego, California. Don’t tell our friend (NorCal/SoCal rivalry) but I think there is something special about this city.

Even in January, the weather is absolutely beautiful. Sunny, a little breezy with a few clouds dotting the sky. The greenery and rolling hills are amazing. I love the smell of the salty ocean air and the seemingly endless horizon. Not to mention the proximity to the beach!

San Francisco, I still love you! I promise! I’m more of a cold weather and fog kind of girl but you have to admit – this view is pretty fantastic.

Road Trip: Day 2

Chris and I explored the area a bit, then went to have a late lunch with our friend. Unfortunately, we didn’t make it to any of the typical touristy things – the zoo, museums, etc. but there is always next time! But I did make sure to stop by the beach… at sunset.

Are you surprised?

If you look closely at my knee, you can see where I was injured while attempting to enter our friend’s place the night before. The shrubbery got me!

The beach at dusk is absolutely breathtaking. These quick photos don’t do it justice!

Road Trip: Day 2

My outfit is cobbled together from various things I threw in my new suitcase (Christmas present, thanks Mom! <3).

I completely forgot to finish packing, even though we left a day later than planned. I was unorganized and threw in random stuff mere hours before we took off, which has left me a little anxious when I peek into my suitcase for something to wear each morning!

When traveling, I've been trying to either be completely OCD and plan things out or create outfits around a color scheme. OCD like my Texas trip last summer - there was a very, very detailed spreadsheet. Or a color scheme like our weekend in San Francisco, when I chose to use teal and purple as accents to my mix and match, classic pieces. Granted, one trip was for a few weeks, the other mere days!

The last few years I've been doing more and more flying but I'm trying to pack smarter regardless of where and how I'm traveling. This trip is an exception.

For this trip (undetermined length, by car, but a week max), I overpacked. No question. Maybe I'll snap a picture of my almost super stuffed suitcase before the trip is over. Or maybe not because come on, who wants to see a suitcase of dirty laundry? Unless we decide to utilize the laundry room in the hotel before then...

We were trying to take a picture but the water came in and surprised us. It was a little cold!

Road Trip: Day 2

Everybody was kung fu fighting! Hiyah!

I always feel like I forget something. Many times, I do – like my toothbrush. One of the very last things you pack because you need to use it that day. It usually ends up in a bag on my bathroom counter, waiting for my return home. But I remembered it this trip!

Packing for travel, especially in a smaller suitcase has a delicate balance. Even more so when you’re a fat girl! Space is at a premium.

Do you have room for all the essentials? Do you have enough outfits, plus backup for malfunctions? The appropriate toiletries? Pajamas? A jacket? Comfy shoes? Whatever you need. Of course it varies on the trip and method of travel involved.

I’ll share my travel tips and tricks soon!

How do you choose what to pack when traveling?

Road Trip: Day 1

On Tuesday, Chris and I headed out on our 500 mile, ~8 hour drive to San Diego from the Bay Area. For the last couple of years I’ve had the burning desire to go to Disneyland. Yes, I am 26 years old and Disneyland still ranks up there for me. Come on, it is the happiest place on earth!

But Nicole, why San Diego… Disneyland is in Anaheim! Well, we decided since we were already going to SoCal, we’d drive a little further to visit friends, the beach and do some sightseeing.

Road Trip: Day 1

We had a couple of hiccups getting out of town… mainly because the “reliable” car I had planned to borrow from my parent’s on Monday was deemed unsafe right before we were supposed to leave.

Apparently the axel isn’t supposed to make a noise/shake when you move the tire, so I rented a car. Which worked out for us because the rental has wayyy better gas mileage. Driving this thing (a 2011 Nissan Altima) makes me want to buy a new shiny car… but thankfully that is one thing that is way out of my budget and therefore, cannot be an impulse buy.

I’ve been resisting buying a car for years because I’m silly and want to live in a city (or THE city, San Francisco) and rely on public transit and/or my feet.

Here is my super wrinkled, makeup-less, traveling OOTD! This dress and cardigan are a few years old but well loved and worn often. I got the dress from a Fatshionista(now sales are on fatshionxchange) and the cardigan from one of Torrid’s clearance sales. They have been my one of my go-to stores for printed cardigans for a few years now!

Road Trip: Day 1

On the way south, we ended up stopping at this vista point in… well, the middle of nowhere. It was right off of I-5, that is all I’ve got. Rolling golden hills at just-before-dusk and the interstate. Not much else!

Road Trip: Day 1

Shortly after this break, I had Chris take over the driving. Long distance driving is not one of my favorite past-times. Especially miles and miles of highway. Besides, I’d rather be sticking my camera out the window and taking silly pictures!

Road Trip: Day 1

Above was my view for the other ~250ish miles to San Diego… except for when I napped over the Grapevine. We made pretty good time and arrived in San Diego around 10pm.

I’m a few days behind on posting (duh) but have managed to take pictures every day – San Diego on Wednesday, driving north and downtown LA on Thursday. Right now we’re in Anaheim for a few days… and headed to Disneyland tomorrow! I can’t wait!

If anyone has sights, shopping or food suggestions for the Los Angeles area – I’d love to hear them! Thanks to a Twitter follower, I’ll definitely be visiting a local gluten free bakery before heading back home. Yum!

Have you ever taken a road trip? Where did you go? If you haven’t, where would you go?

Oh hi!

So much for good intentions? I’m back, alive and well, from my “vacation” in Texas. Where I spent time in Dallas, Fort Worth and Houston. But unlike I planned – absolutely no blogging occurred. Oops. I barely took (or had) any pictures taken either! FOR SHAME. It was just too hot and I was busy having fun. Surprisingly, I did not melt in the 106˚F heat/humidity. Nobody was more surprised than me! Then again – everything in Texas has air conditioning.

I’m going to throw in a few random pictures from my trip…

I did manage to do some shopping but not as much as planned – which is actually a very, very good thing. My bag only weighed 10lbs more when I brought it back. Small miracles, eh?

Most of it was stuff from this AMAZING fabric warehouse called Golden D’OR Fabrics that I found on Yelp. So much fabric, so much space! I wish I had taken my camera because it is truly a sight to see. My favorite area was their giant clearance room or maybe the silk section. I ended up getting fabric for 50 cents a yard and eyelet trim for 25 cents a yard. Plus some different cotton prints for 99 cents a yard. Crazy! I wish I had more time to go through the clearance area but I guess I’ll just have to find my way back to Dallas. Though I should probably exhaust my Bay Area/California fabric resources first…

And to sew (or finish) something. Ha!

The last month has been ridiculous with doctor stuff, packing for my trip, the trip itself, my new job and this last week I’ve been trying to unpack, catch up and clean the house – because you can tell that it has been neglected… though I’ve almost finished remedying that.

I have a lot of catch up posts to do (*cough* Five Take *cough*) but I’ll get there!

Here’s a quick picture of me in the Dallas Museum of Art and an outfit that SHOULD have been a Five Take outfit but I never got the picture with the most important part. You’ll see!

Dress – Old Navy, bracelet – F21.

It was fun but I’m glad to be home!
