Five Take: Maxi Dress v2

The idea behind Five Take is pretty simple. One theme, five people… resulting in five different looks. The only restriction is having to shop from our closets. Sounds easy enough, right?

This week, our challenge was a maxi dress. When we did this theme last year, it was my first time wearing one.

I guess you can say I got over my misgivings. Since then, I’ve added a “few” to my wardrobe.

I wouldn’t say that maxi dresses (and skirts) are my favorite type of clothing, but they are turning out to be extremely versatile. I can wear one as pajamas, in the summer, in the winter, layered… really, there are a lot of ways. My favorite is pajamas, haha.

My maxi skirts and dresses have taken me through winter, and the transition into spring… but the last few days we’ve been hovering around 90°F. When packing up my clothes, I found a couple of my summer dresses, like this blue number, and thought about giving it a spin.

After reading 100% cotton on the tag, it was inevitable.

I spent the day out at my parents’ house for the neighborhood garage sale. Since I didn’t actually bring anything it was more to spend some time with my family before the move. I was up at 5:30 am to get out there early – no makeup, no accessories. I did have to go dig up a pair of sandals. I thought I could get away with flats until May (it has been raining) but they looked silly.

91°F today, thunderstorms and almost 30°F cooler on Wednesday. The weather needs to make up its mind!

  1. Ooh! I love the fringe in this maxi and usually I’m not too into that. The color is great on you too. I’m glad I’m not the only one who wears them as pajamas. The two I own look awful because they are my sleep clothes. Even the skirt I posted today is one of my lounging items :)

    • I don’t normally go for fringe either – but I loved this dress last year in Lane Bryant’s promo shots. For the $90+ price tag, I wasn’t interested. Luckily, I found it on clearance for ~$20 a few months later.

My black maxi is worn for pajamas often. Or as pajamas, then for work, out to run errands, and finally, as pajamas again. I have two strapless maxi’s that are pajamas too. No wonder people wear nightgowns?

      COMFY.

  2. Such a vibrant blue color!!! The dress is amazing on you! The fringe gives the dress alittle edge. Great choice!

  3. I really love that dress! The fringe detail is really unexpected and the bright blue looks great on you!

Good luck with the move – and thank you for your sweet comment on my post about our move! I wish you all the best things about moving!

    • Thanks Rebecca! Just a few more weeks until I’ll be in another state, in my first apartment.

Hope you have fun settling in. I look forward to the day when I’ll own a house.

I’m already going crazy over how to decorate the apartment – ha!

  4. It is inhumanly hot here too, it got warm enough to go in my pool today… IN APRIL. Ridiculous. You look great! I’m a big fan of maxi dresses (as well as whatever other knit clothing I have lying around) as pajamas too :P

  5. the summer of FRINGE. =)

great color on you. love maxis.

    • Thanks Danielle! Still a little surprised at how easily I got over my maxi hate.

Pushing myself to try new things works out sometimes. Because, really, who can hate an item of clothing that doubles as pajamas?!

  6. Oh that looks AMAZING on you. That colour! And the shape/neckline is so unusual too. Really beautiful. x
