Five Take: Color Blocking

This week for Five Take our challenge was color blocking. Now, I love color and wear lots of it but I tend to “ground” my brightly colored outfits with black or a print. Color blocking is all about big, bold blocks of color and since this is me – I had to go bright.

Color blocking has been around for a couple of seasons, but it seems to be gaining steam. You’ll be seeing more from me, for sure.

First problem – my closet looks like this:

Sorry for the awful cell phone picture but trust me – it has only gotten worse. With my clothes packed in boxes, in bags for Goodwill or in Texas (I left a big suitcase) my options are lacking. I’ve probably whined about it on Twitter already. ;)

Determined to keep with my bright theme, I picked out a few things and built from there. Starting with the floaty ASOS skirts, because I own a few (cough). Two pink-y tones, throw in some teal and we’re in business.

I confess that I only wore the cardigan for an extra “block” of color. Most of the day I went without. I should probably start wearing sunscreen if this is going to be a habit. My pasty white skin + sun = pain of the lobster red variety.

Sunday was my “last” big holiday with my family at home. The guilt trips have begun! I keep joking that if it is the “last”, are they saying that I can’t visit? Harsh times.

Hope you had a Happy Easter/great weekend!

  1. I love the way it looks on others, but I don’t think it ever looks good on me, at least not the way I’ve attempted it in the past. Your outfit is great! The way your lip gloss matches your tank top rocks. :-) …and all the teal… so happy and pop-y!

    • Thanks Meg! I’ve had similar feelings about color blocking and other trends on myself but keep trying anyway. I’m sure you looked great!

  2. Love the colours! I grinned when I saw you as I wore the same colours, in the same combination just last week. They obv work well together!

  3. I love the addition of teal so much! Pink and teal – who would have thought? Not me. I’m such a big fan of teal.

Happy Easter! And good luck with the big move.

    • Thanks Michelle! Many shades of pink work really great with teal. I love red and teal too! Teal and orange…

My favorite color combination for a long, long time was teal, a dark magenta and dark grey. It just looked amazing to me, ha ha.

  4. You cardigan makes me fall in love with teal all over again! You look stunning! I also very much love that the pattern of you shirt resembles that of your shoes ♥

  5. I absolutely LOVE your colour concept, you look fantastic!

  6. Whoa, I LOVE this. I don’t usually dig colorblocking, but I like the way you played with pattern a bit, too, in the shoes & the top of the shirt, & pulled two of the colors together in the shoes & the bracelet, even without the cardigan. I think this makes it feel a bit more grounded, like I would do with black or brown, so the whole outfit feels cohesive. Awesome job!

    • Thanks!

I was trying realllllly hard to avoid black. The black waistband on the skirt was almost a deal breaker but the top was too long to leave untucked. That’s my story, anyway.

  7. I love this! It is pure summer! You look fab x

  8. I love this outfit! Its the epitome of colour blocking. I really like this trend.

  9. <3 <3 <3 this! I'd say I love the skirt and the shoes but I just love every bit of this outfit. It's so colorful!
