OOTD: Leather and lace

Last week I decided to try something a little different using a few neglected pieces in my closet. After looking at the photos, I think that the jacket I want would have completed the look. And the addition of more shiny jewelry (that I couldn’t find before leaving the house). Maybe next time!

Alas, it is almost summer and I’ve pretty much convinced myself that I do not need the jacket. Almost. I was going for a more rock n’ roll vibe – “leather”, studs and lace. There isn’t too much of the former in my closet – but it worked well enough with what I had! I even put on makeup for the occasion. If my black cropped cardigan ever re-appears, I have an idea for a similar outfit!

OOTD: Wishing for spring!

365.102 - Accidents

Spring is here… and well, not. We keep getting spots of nice weather between bouts of rain. Unfortunately for me, I commute to San Francisco a few days a week. Which means in addition to this funky weather, I get to deal with temperatures 10-15 degrees cooler than where I live. When I finally think I can say goodbye to the leggings, heavier cardigans and boots… I have to put them back on again!

Either way, in a month I’ll be whining about how hot it is. So dealing with cooler weather for a little bit longer isn’t that big of deal! This is one of the new cotton sundresses from Avenue that I mentioned in a previous post. Grab them while you can! I have two from last year and can’t really say enough good things about them. But again, I’m lazy and dresses that can be machine wash/dried, that travel/wear well, on top of looking cute, are a very precious commodity!

Avenue sundresses!

Some of you might recognize this dress from last year. Yes folks – the Avenue sundresses are back! Last summer, I purchased two of these dresses. I was lucky enough to snag the one below online, but I found the other in-store. I live in the San Francisco Bay area – so the weather here isn’t too miserable… but it still gets pretty damn hot! Plus living in a house with no air conditioner? Light, cotton dresses are one of my summer staples.

These dresses are ideal for summer frocks. Great cut, great fit and come in a variety of prints. Did I mention they are 100% cotton?

This season there are a few to choose from:

Since my previous two dresses served me well all year round, I was really excited when this round of dresses came out and picked up the daisy print sundress. It seems to be a thinner fabric than last year and runs a bit smaller, but I would say true to size. I’m not a fan of the similarity between the prints – too much floral! But beggars cant be choosers. I’m hoping this dress wears as well as my other two – OOTD coming soon!

Meant to be

To say I Iove this dress is a gross understatement.

I purchased this dress last summer from Roaman’s. A few years ago, catalogs had been my only choice for clothes – but I still checked for cute items on occasion. Enter my obsession for obnoxious floral prints. Which probably stems from my childhood… but let’s not get technical! Either way, it was love at first sight.

The dress was great, I wore it a lot that summer and I bought my first pair of black leggings to wear with this dress to transition into fall/winter. The only problem? I have noticed that it has gotten shorter over time – by a few inches. From just outside my comfort zone to “holy crap, that’s short!”

I started to see if I could find it online. No luck. I wasn’t counting on it and just figured the dress would have to retire eventually. But as fate has it – I went thrifting today. And what do I find on the rack? My dress. Same size. Great condition. $3.99. Well, the lady at the counter said it was mis-tagged, so I ended up paying $7.99 – but hey! It was meant to be.
